Liar’s Bar Game Launches in Early Access with a New Take on Social Deception

Master the art of deception. If you lie, you die. It’s that simple in the Liar’s Bar game. Developed and launched by Curve Animation in October 2024, Liar’s Bar Game is about lies and how good you are at hiding the truth.

This Early Access release takes players into a tavern for more than just drinks and banter. It’s about a first-person multiplayer game where you must beat your opponents to remain alive.

Curve Animation states that the full version is in the pipeline and will have added features. Meanwhile, players can try the Early Access version and provide feedback to improve the game.

What to Expect From Liar’s Bar Early Access Launch

The Early Access Launch shows how the developer is focused on player interaction and replayability. All the action unfolds in a gritty, old-fashioned tavern that seems to be underground. Players then take up roles as undercover investigators, patrons, and bartenders.

However, regardless of the rile you assume, there’s only one goal: lie convincingly to achieve your objective while avoiding detection from others. It’s this blend of tactics and intense bluffing that sets the stage for thrilling gameplay.

What’s interesting about these characters is how they fuse animals with human features. You have a dog (Scubby), a pig (Bristle), a fox (Foxy), and a bull (Toar).

The developer stated that the Early Access version is a chance for players to shape the game. To influence development by providing feedback that will inform the final version.

According to Curve Animation, the Early Access version will be available for 6 months. During that time, the developer will also add new content while optimizing gameplay. Additionally, Curve Animation hopes to refine features based on player feedback.

    Liar’s Deck and Liar’s Dice

Liar’s Bar Early Access version comes with two games. That is Liar’s Deck and Liar’s Dice.

Starting with the latter, you will have to roll your dice. However, no other player will see the result of your dice. All eyes will be on your next move. When it’s your turn, you need to guess the result of the dice showing a particular number on the table.

An example can be an instance where you guess there are three 5’s. Other players may call your bluff or they can make a guess of what the value of the dice is. If you’re caught lying, you must drink poison from a bottle. Do that twice, and that’s the end of the road for you. Whoever remains on the table is the winner.

In Liar’s Deck, players take turns in placing a face-down card while stating the value of the card. For instance, you can place a queen but lie about it, saying it’s a king. However, you must be excellent at hiding your lie because if any other player calls your bluff and you’re caught lying, you’ll have to play the dangerous Russian Roulette game.

If you’re not familiar with Russian Roulette, this is a game where a gun with one bullet is fired. If it misfires, you survive. But if it fires the bullet, you lose.

Liar’s Bar offers a rather similar intense experience to casino games like blackjack, roulette, and poker. They are all built on strategy, chance, and the psychological element of reading opponents.

While both casino table games and Liar’s Bar rely on strategy and psychological warfare, the latter takes things a notch higher. Instead of solely relying on cards or dice, players are immersed in character-driven narratives where every conversation could be a trap, and every move is scrutinized.

For those interested in trying their hand at strategic and psychological games, both Liar’s Bar and the casino table games you’ll find online offer intense and challenging gameplay experiences—whether you prefer bluffing at the virtual bar or the poker table.

Two More Games in the Pipeline

Curve Animation also stated during the Early Access release that Liar’s Bar will have two more games added in the full version. Players will challenge themselves in a round of Liar’s Roulette and Liar’s Poker. Even so, the developer remains tightlipped on the mechanics used in these games.

While at it, the company announced several updates expected in the full release:

    • In-game monetization
    • New characters
    • Character customization
    • Leaderboards
    • Immersive simulations that include bar fights and buying drinks

Will Liar’s Bar Debut on Console?

Currently, Liar’s Bar is only available on Steam in Early Access. That is the PC version, which means console players will have to sit this one out for an unknown period. The developer is yet to announce an official roadmap of when the game may be available on Switch, PlayStation, or Xbox and this may be a clear indicator that the main focus is on getting the PC version right as it prepares for the full version release.

Pull your seat for a spot at the table on Steam with Liar’s Bar, now retailing at $5.94 USD / £5.00.
