We are so very sorry to share the news that the great James Earl Jones, star of stage and screen, has passed away.
Arguably best known as the voice of iconic villain Dark Vader throughout the “Star Wars” universe, Earl Jones was a celebrated actor and EGOT winner. His film career started with director Stanley Kubrick‘s “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb” in 1964. Talk about starting strong.
There wasn’t a genre he didn’t excel in, from live-action sword and sorcery villains like Thusla Doom in “Conan the Barbarian,” to warm and kind elder neighbor in “The Sandlot.” What a career. Of course, there was also the Disney animated classic “The Lion King,” where he voiced Mufasa, king of the Pride Lands. That rumble. That gravitas.
He passed this morning at his home in Dutchess County, NY, his reps confirmed to the press.
He was 93.
