Okay, I’m late to the party on reporting about this particular adaptation. MGM+ is developing a tv series based on George R. Stewart‘s classic science fiction (post-apocalyptic) novel, “Earth Abides.” Not only that, but Alexander Ludwig (“Vikings,” “Heels“) will star as Isherwood “Ish” Williams!
When a plague of unprecedented virulence sweeps the globe, the human race is all but wiped out. In the aftermath, as the great machine of civilization slowly and inexorably breaks down, only a few shattered survivors remain to struggle against the slide into extinction.
Ludwig will be joined by series co-star Jessica Frances Dukes as Em, as well as newly announced cast members Aaron Tveit as Charlie, Rodrigo Fernandez-Stoll as Jorge, Elyse Levesque as Maurine, Luisa D’Oliveira as Molly, Birkett Turton as Ezra, Hilary McCormack as Jean, and Jenna Berman as Evie.
Ish is an intellectual loner, who embraces the grim duty of bearing witness to what may be humanity’s final days. But then he finds Em, a wise and courageous woman who coaxes his stunned heart back to life and teaches him to hope again. Together, they will face unimaginable challenges as they sow the seeds of a new beginning.
Showrunner Todd Komarnicki wrote the series. Executive producers include Kearie Peak and Lighthouse Productions’ Michael Phillips and Juliana Maio. and it’s scheduled to hit MGM+ sometime in 2024.
