Angry “Star Wars” Fans Review Bomb 2008 Film “Acolytes”

Oh, review bombers. When will you ever learn. It’s pretty obvious when you seek out something, based purely on it’s name, and leave a bunch of 1-star reviews on something, proclaiming it “too woke,” “awful,” “where are the wh*te people,” and so forth. These are the same ‘fans’ who don’t seem to understand that certain works of popular fiction- like “Star Wars” and “Star Trek“- have ALWAYS been about progress, and yes, even *gasp* politics.

Maybe you’re wondering what the hell Nerdbot is babbling about. And you know what, sometimes we have to ask the same thing. Because this is getting absolutely ridiculous.

On June 4th, the first two episodes of the newest tale from the galaxy far, far away hit Disney+. “Star Wars: The Acolyte” takes place during the High Republic, thousands of years before the beginning of the Skywalker Saga. The cast is lead by Amandla Stenberg (who “Hunger Games” fans would maybe recognize as District 11’s doomed tribute, Roo), Dafne Keen (“Logan“), Lee Jung-jae (“Squid Game“), Carrie Ann Moss (“The Matrix“), and Charlie Barnett (“Chicago Fire“). So, not really the normal cast for a “Star Wars” film.

People who didn’t like the show took to the internet (don’t they always?) in droves to decry the show, and harass/attack anyone who defended it. Their criticisms weren’t really anything we’d deem as valid. Again, pointing out the lack of typical “Luke Skywalker” and “Han Solo” type characters, as well as not caring for the female-fronted cast. (We’re trying to avoid spoilers here, so bare with us.) But instead of just saying “you know, this show isn’t for me, I don’t have to watch it-” they instead sought out a movie from 2008 called “Acolytes,” and stared review bombing it.

Lol, chodes review bombing a 2008 movie called Acolytes instead of #TheAcolyte, but we’re supposed to take these “critiques” in good faith pic.twitter.com/A7Tz2eeIxG

Just a sample of some of the ‘reviews’ for a film from 16 years ago.

Oh, and it gets better, because there is a fanfilm called “The Acolyte” from 2022, that is ALSO suddenly, getting the same treatment.

    Update-

Rotten Tomatoes has seemingly managed to scrape all the recent negative reviews.

Episode 3 of “The Acolyte” hits Disney+ Tuesday, June 18th.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
