The man behind “Terrifier” and “Terrifier 2”’s villain Art The Clown, David Howard Thornton, will be bringing us terror in a new form… Steamboat Willie. Thornton has joined the cast of the Steamboat Willie horror reimagining “Screamboat.”
Steamboat Willie is the earliest version of Disney’s legendary Mickey Mouse character. The character entered the public domain on January 1st, allowing it to be turned into a horror parody like many other copyright-free IPs before it. So Thornton will be playing a nightmarish version of the character that Disney is built on the back of.
“I’m thrilled to be working on ‘Screamboat’ with such a killer cast from horror legends to comedy icons,” director Steven LaMorte said in a statement. “David Howard Thornton is bringing our mischievous and murderous take on Steamboat Willie to life like never before. I can’t wait for audiences to laugh and scream with us onboard ‘Screamboat’!”
“I’m beyond excited to join this incredible cast and bring Steamboat Willie to life with a horror twist,” Thornton added. “‘Screamboat’ is going to be a horrific and hilarious big screen thrill ride that fans won’t want to miss.”
The Plot of “Screamboat“
“‘Screamboat’ will follow a group of New Yorkers on a late-night ferry ride. Their outing turns deadly when a mischievous mouse begins a rampage, targeting unsuspecting passengers. They must band together to defeat the murderous menace before it’s too late.
Thornton will join Allison Pittel (“Stream”), Amy Schumacher (“The Mean One”), Jesse Posey (“Teen Wolf”), and Jesse Kove (“Cobra Kai”). Rumi C Jean-Louis (“Hightown”), Jarlath Conroy (“Day of the Dead”), and Charles Edwin Powell (“The Exorcist III”) will also star.
“Screamboat” is set to hit theaters sometime in 2025. We’ll keep you posted on updates about this project as it develops.
