“The Boys” S4 Trailer Sees The Seven as ‘Wrathful Gods’

Amazon Prime Video has released the first trailer for the fourth season of “The Boys,” it’s just as dystopian and violent as you’d expect. Based on a comic book co-created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the show follows a group of vigilantes who set out to take down corrupt superheroes who abuse their powers.

The new trailer starts with Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) narrating. “I look back at my life and all I see are messes I’ve made and I ain’t got time to fix it,” he says. “I can do one thing right with the time I’ve got left, and I can’t do it alone. I can’t do it without you.”

Billy only has a few months to live and desperately tries to get The Boys back together. This is easier said than done since Homelander’s (Antony Starr) power trip with The Seven, a  Vought International-owned group of superheroes, has reached machiavellian levels.

    Corruption

We then get a shot of a crowd gathered in front of Vought headquarters, with signs saying things like “Homelander is a fascist.” All while Homelander addresses what remains of The Seven.

“This country is corrupt beyond repair,” he says. “So we’ve gotta save it. It’s not going to be easy, we’re going to have to do some terrible things for the greater good. You’ll no longer be beloved celebrities, you will be wrathful gods. Show me a little wrath.” All said while his grip grows tighter around his beloved baseball bat.

Taking his advice The Deep (Chace Crawford) smashes someone’s head in. Then Firecracker (Valorie Mae Curry), is shown kicking another man who is gagged and bound. While we watch the fiery carnage, Joe Kessler (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), warns Billy about the consequences of not stepping up.

“The whole world is about to burn,” Joe says. “We need someone like you, Billy, before the supes start rounding us up and start dumping us off in camps.” That’s when Billy reveals he has discovered a “virus that kills supes.”

Starlight (Erin Moriarty) is clearly disgusted by the idea. “That’s insane and desperate, even for you,” she protests. Billy responds; “Well insanely desperate is where we are, don’t ya think?”

The footage then turns to a montage of various odd superpowered shots. Things like a chicken bursting from someone’s chest. And tentacles shooting out of another person’s mouth, all stuff we’ve come to expect from “The Boys.”

    A Call For Violence

Towards the end of the trailer, Firecracker makes a TV appearance “declaring hunting season on Starlighters.” It soon becomes clear that the group is divided on how to proceed. “Look we’ve all done bad s—,” Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid) points out. “What’s insane is that our solution to every problem is murder. Violence isn’t brave.”

The Deep disagrees: “Violence is power.” “If we’re ever going to win against monsters, we need to start acting human,” Hughie rebukes.

The trailer ends with Billy coldly saying, “You’re all fucking welcome.”

“The Boys” season 4 premieres on Amazon Prime Video on June 13th. You can check out the gory, action-packed, and confusing trailer below:
