Christina Applegate (“Married… with Children,” “Dead to Me“) is battling another illness. This time, from unknowingly ingesting feces. Applegate has been living with multiple sclerosis (MS), which limits what she can do differently on a day to day basis. But this is a whole different kind of situation.

“Someone else’s poop went into my mouth and I ate it,” Applegate said. She believes she ingested it after eating a takeout salad. The restaurant it came from is actually about to close down, for a different unrelated reason. She told reporters she had to take a stool test which was “so gross,” that she ended up vomiting. Eventually, she was found to have sapovirus.

Sapovirus can cause multiple symptoms, an abrupt onset of vomiting and/or watery diarrhea, accompanied by abdominal cramps and nausea. Symptoms in a healthy host can last from 24 to 72 hours. However, more prolonged illness can occur, particularly among elderly people, young children, and immunocompromised patients like Applegate. She’s now been battling this virus for going on three weeks and she’s not happy about it.

“I’m gonna be gross,” Christina said on her “MeSsy” podcast. “I woke up at 3 o’clock in the morning in a pool of s–t. Didn’t know it happened, and having MS at 3 o’clock in the morning and trying to change your sheets, it’s not fun.”

This whole health ordeal didn’t just start with her eating bad takeout. Someone close to her accidentally brought home Covid-19, causing her to catch the virus for the first time. For someone struggling with MS already, she experienced more severe symptoms including a chest infection and an elevated heart rate.

“I’m almost going on three weeks of being sick from this,” she continued, adding sarcastically, “so that’s my fun story.” Regardless of why she’s sick, we sure hope she heals up quickly and to the best of her abilities. We hate to hear of anyone suffering sickness, but especially Christina Applegate because she’s such a sweet soul.
