Following a Warner Bros. Pictures panel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas today, the first trailer for the upcoming “Joker” sequel has been released. Director Todd Phillips returns to helm “Joker: Foile à Deux,.” Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix also returns as the Clown Prince of Crime. This time, he’s joined by Lady Gaga, who will be playing the one and only Dr. Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn.
In the first film, Arthur Fleck (Phoenix) is an aspiring comedian battling some serious mental health issues. We watch as he slowly slides down the rabbit hole of becoming one of DC Comics’ most notorious villains, The Joker. The sequel will introduce the character’s longtime henchwoman/girlfriend/punching bag Harley Quinn.
As far as the title, Folie à Deux is a medical term that refers to an identical or similar mental disorder that affects 2 or more individuals at the same time. We also know this film will be a jukebox musical, featuring at least 15 cover songs and some original works.
Harry Lawtey (“Industry“), Jacob Lofland, Catherine Keener (“Get Out“), and Brendan Gleeson (“The Banshees of Inisherin“) have been confirmed as joining the cast. It’s also worth noting this film, like the previous one, are NOT considered DC Studios canon.
