Red 5 Comics “Afterburn” is finally getting adapted into a feature film! The comic series takes place one year after a massive solar flare destroys the Earth’s eastern hemisphere. It follows Jake as he tries to retrieve valuable items from the wasteland while outwiting the competition and the mutated locals.

Dave Bautista (“Dune,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”) and Samuel L. Jackson (“Avengers”) will star. J.J. Perry (“The Killer’s Game”) will direct from a script by Matt Johnson (“Into The Blue”), with revisions by Nimrod Antal (“Control”).

“Afterburn” will follow Jake (Bautista), an ex-soldier turned treasure hunter who recovers valuable objects for powerful clients. His latest mission has him teaming up with freedom fighter, Drea, to recover the Mona Lisa. But they have to get to it before an unhinged warlord snatches the painting up. Jackson will star as a fellow freedom fighter, Valentine. Additional casting is still underway and the film is set to begin shooting in Europe this April.

Producers for “Afterburn” include Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe for Original Film, and Steve Richards for financier Endurance Media. Bautista will also produce under his Dogbone Entertainment banner. Black Bear will be handling international sales and CAA Media Finance is doing domestic.

”Afterburn is a terrific action story, combining the fun of Indiana Jones with the near future world building of ‘Children of Men‘,” Jaffe said. “J.J. is going to bring this to life in a thrilling way, using real practical stunt work to create authentic, visceral set pieces. Dave is one of the leading action stars in the world today, as well as being an actor with real soul and versatility. So excited to be making Afterburn with them both.”

“The combination of Dave Bautista and Sam Jackson in an epic adventure is a sure-fire proposition for the international marketplace,” added Black Bear’s Friedberg. “With an action master like J.J. at the helm, and incredible producers in Steve, Neal and Toby, this is going to be a spectacular cinematic event.”

We’ll keep you posted on updates about “Afterburn” as they become available.
