It’s no secret filmmakers Ben Affleck and Matt Damon work well together. From being extras in 1992’s “Field of Dreams” to their breakout hit “Good Will Hunting” in 1997, and their most recent project “Air,” the duo certainly love collaborating. They’re at it again with the upcoming crime thriller “Animals” for Netflix.
Up until recently, “Animals” has been a fairly secretive project kicking around Hollywood under a few different names like “The Animals of Los Angeles” and “Be Gentlemen.” The film is set to start shooting in Los Angeles in March with Affleck directing and Damon to star. Connor McIntyre penned the script, with revisions by Billy Ray.
“Animals” will revolve around a mayoral candidate and his wife whose son is kidnapped. Given their position the couple is already surrounded by plenty of enemies, so they are left with no choice but to get their hands dirty to save their child.
Affleck and Damon will produce via their Artists Equity, along with Dani Bernfeld. Brad Weston and Collin Creighton will also produce via their MakeReady banner alongside Fifth Season (formerly Endeavor Content).
Artists Equity is the pair’s recently launched artist-led studio that seeks to reward all of a movie’s participants financially. Their first film was the hit “Air” for Amazon with Affleck directing and starring Damon.
We’ll keep you posted on updates about Netflix’s “Animals” when they become available.
