Navigating Singapore’s Pet Import Process for a Hassle-free Relocation Experience!

A pet parent cannot live without their furry friends, no matter where they go. If you plan to relocate to Singapore soon, you should bring it to your new home. Such decisions require a proper understanding of the destination country’s pet import law concerning your pet’s age, medical health, and stress or anxiety levels. At the same time, you would need a safe and comfortable travel crate for your furry buddies to ensure a smooth journey for them. Since the air route suits long-distance travel, booking a pet-friendly airline will be better. Do you worry about how to manage all these things?

A trusted pet import company can help from start to end with their support and guidance. Before this, let’s quickly understand the entire import process in Singapore, so you know why professional assistance is recommended in these matters.

    • Rabies risk factor

Countries are listed into categories A to D, demonstrating the status of rabies risk of a pet coming from a particular country. The UK, Republic of Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand are considered safe from rabies risk and belong to Category A. If your pet is clinically proven healthy, quarantine rules may not apply. The decision depends on the pet’s blood tests, parasite treatments, and vaccinations.

    • Safe breed

Some dog and cat species are strictly prohibited in Singapore. Pit Bulls, Akita, Dogo Argentino, Perro De Presa Canario, Tosa, and others may not be allowed. You can confirm this with the pet moving agency also. The same applies to Bengal and Savannah cats of 1st to 4th generations. You must also see how many pets per apartment are allowed in your residential area. Typically, you can keep one pet in a Housing Development Board (HDB) flat and up to three in non-HBD flats.

    • Quarantine space reservation

Pets from categories C and D countries will stay in the quarantine upon arrival. Duration can vary from 10 to 30 days based on certain conditions. Countries under categories A and B may be safe from this requirement if your pet satisfies all the veterinary conditions required for importing them. If your pet has to stay in the quarantine, you must book a spot beforehand. Your pet moving company can help you a lot in this area. So, take their suggestion if you face a block at any stage. If you find someone who offers end-to-end support, your headache will almost be zero.

    • Licence

You need to obtain an import licence after a dog licence. These will involve a small fee depending on your pet’s age, sterilisation status, and other elements. You may also have to pay a customs tax to obtain a permit. Once the pet arrives in Singapore, it will be inspected. One has to make arrangements for this as well.

As you can see, importing a pet in Singapore involves many steps, and every requirement must be fulfilled appropriately to land it at your home. A DIY approach can seem tempting, but the pressure of paperwork, meeting deadlines, and other nitty-gritty will be too much to handle. Instead, you can lighten your burden by entrusting someone responsible and efficient with this job and enjoy their support.
