We’re sorry to report MAX series “Warrior” will not return for a fourth season. The previous three seasons of the show are headed to Netflix starting in the new year. This arrangement is part of a co-exclusive deal with MAX in Warner Bros. Discovery streamer’s markets. There’s even a chance if it does well enough on Netflix, the martial arts crime drama could be revived for additional seasons.
Based on an original concept and treatment by Bruce Lee, “Warrior” is set in the late 19th century during the Tong Wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown. The story centers around Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji), a martial arts prodigy who comes to San Francisco from China for mysterious reasons. After proving his skills, he becomes a hatchet man for the powerful crime family, Hope Wei.
This marks the series’ third home over its short run. It first premiered on Cinemax in 2019, where it ran for two seasons. When Cinemax decided to move away from original content, “Warrior” moved to MAX in 2020, a fellow Warner-owned platform. MAX launched the third and final season in summer 2023.
“Warrior is a show that simply refuses to die,” series creator and executive producer Jonathan Tropper said. “Through platform and regime changes, the writers, producers, cast, crew, and our stunt team continued to make something powerful, relevant, and wildly unique. And now, thanks to Netflix, we’ve been given yet another lease on life, and I’m thrilled for everyone involved that millions more viewers around the world will discover it.”
“If anything can be said about Warrior, with Bruce Lee in our corner, our indomitable spirit is REAL,” said Shannon Lee, daughter of Bruce Lee and executive producer. “And so, my wish is that the huge global Netflix audience LOVES Warrior and from that Love more goodness flows – in the form of greater recognition for our talented cast and crew who deserve all the things, in the form of passionate fandom for this relevant kick ass show and, if I dare to dream, in the form of an opportunity to continue our story for our amazing fans who, thanks to Netflix, will have grown in number and enthusiasm!”
Netflix resurrecting “Warrior” does have at least one major hurdle- the cast has been released from their contracts for the show. Koji is already signed on for the Sky and AMC+ series “Gangs of London” and the upcoming film “Sixteen.” The series also stars, Olivia Cheng, Dianne Doan, Jason Tobin, Kieran Bew, Dean Jagger, Tom Weston-Jones, Hoon Lee, Perry Yung, Langley Kirkwood, Miranda Raison, Chen Tang, Chelsea Muirhead, Mark Dacascos (“John Wick,” “Iron Chef“) and Joe Taslim. So, getting the band back together may just not be feasible.
“Warrior” seasons 1-3 are slated to hit Netflix sometime in February of 2024. We’ll let you know what we hear about a possible continuation. You can check out a trailer for the series below:
