We knew the day would come eventually, but that never really prepares you for when a pinnacle of an art form passes away. The great Norman Lear, a king among the television world, has passed away. He was, as we would hope, at home, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
“Norman lived a life in awe of the world around him. He marveled at his cup of coffee every morning, the shape of the tree outside his window, and the sounds of beautiful music,” his family said in a post, confirming the sad news. “But it was people — those he just met and those he knew for decades — who kept his mind and heart forever young. As we celebrate his legacy and reflect on the next chapter of life without him, we would like to thank everyone for all the love and support.”
Hollywood has been quick to offer their condolences to his family, as well as sharing their favorite stories with the legendary tv comedy writer. “I loved Norman Lear with all my heart,” actor and director Rob Reiner posted. “He was my second father. Sending my love to Lyn and the whole Lear family.”
“Norman Lear seemed external! The kindest, most talented & amazing human being,” actress Morgan Fairchild posted. “He changed TV & launched so many careers! And a great philanthropist! He was a mentor when I 1st got to LA & so politically savvy! Introduced me to a young Obama. Condolences to Lyn & family.”
Lear was 101.

Mary Anne Butler
Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
