Actress María Gabriela de Faría (“Deadly Class”) will play villain Angela Spica (aka The Engineer) in James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy.” The character first graced the pages of DC Comics in “The Authority” volume 1 issue #1 in 1999. The Engineer’s powers are the product of nanotechnology built into her body.

De Faría will be starring alongside the previously announced David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
This will be the first entry into the DC Universe’s (DCU) slate of revamped films. This will also be the first DCU movie Gunn has directed since becoming co-head of DC Studios with Peter Safran. “Superman: Legacy,” will follow Kal-El’s search to reconcile his Kryptonian roots with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

Gunn has recently confirmed that “Superman: Legacy” is still on track to release on July 11th, 2025. Even with the hiatuses due to the now-resolved WGA and SAG-AFTRA labor strikes. Gunn penned the script based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. DC Studios co-head Safran will produce.
We’ll keep you posted on updates about “Superman: Legacy” as they become available.
