“The Marvels” Flips From Rotten to Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) latest entry “The Marvels” has climbed from rotten to fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Soon after the film’s premier, it was ranked at 55% critically, and gained mostly mixed reviews. While many love the cast, the overall plot and villain didn’t seem to be landing with them.

Now that “The Marvels” has had a wide release, its ranking on Rotten Tomatoes has climbed to a 62% with critics, making it Fresh. Audience rating is up to 85%. This jump in rating is mostly thanks to more reviews coming in. While the film is still a mixed bag, many are viewing it as a favorable and fun entry into the MCU.

“Funny, refreshingly brief, and elevated by the chemistry of its three leads, ‘The Marvels’ is easy to enjoy in the moment despite its cluttered story and jumbled tonal shifts,” reads Rotten Tomatoes’ critics consensus.

Most fans are on board with a superhero film led by a trio of women (a huge departure from what studios have been claiming for decades). Many viewers are also agreeing with the earlier criticisms about the storyline feeling chaotic and not cohesive.

In all fairness, that is becoming a common criticism about the MCU in general, not just “The Marvels.” Case in point, “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania,” though those reviews didn’t start to skew towards the positive. All these mixed reactions could be a symptom of the dreaded superhero fatigue. Or it could just be fans not digging how wacky some of the phrase 5 entries have been.

“The Marvels” is currently in theaters. You can read our reviews here and here. Check out the trailer below:
