Yes, we’ve been talking A LOT about Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the beloved animated series, “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” This project has been a long time in the making. And it’ll be great to finally have a live-action adaptation of the show. Because there wasn’t one before. Not a single one. Nope. Never.

    Appa!!! Netflix

We digress- during Netflix’s GeekedWeek, the first teaser trailer was released, and BOYHOWDY was it great. Some definite surprises, like the inclusion of Suki (Maria Zhang) and the Kyoshi warriors! There were also some pretty important locations showcased, like Omashu in the Earth Kingdom, and Avatar Roku’s (C.S. Lee) Fire Island home. And Momo!

There were already some Fire Nation photos released, highlighting Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim) and his family. But here’s a pretty great shot of Princess Azula (Elizabeth Yu), and a few of Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu) and Uncle Iroh (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee). And obviously, we’d already seen some photos of Aang (Cordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio), and Sokka (Ian Ousley).

Images from the new teaser trailer:

If you missed it, there were some additional casting announcements that absolutely tease what we can expect to see in the series. We’re really hoping it gets picked up for additional seasons, but not really knowing how far the story goes in this one, it’s hard to say.

“Avatar: The Last Airbender” the original animated series is currently streaming on Netflix. So is the follow-up series, “Legend of Korra.” The live action series will premiere February 22nd, 2024. Check out the teaser below:

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
