“Moulin Rouge!” has been enjoying its time on Broadway. Having been awarded the Tony for Best Musical, the show is making waves, fueling crowds with nostalgia and pop culture favorites. Currently, the role of burlesque house owner Harold Zidler is held by Tituss Burgess, but Burgess will be hanging up his hat in early December. Leaving Eric Anderson to fill the role for roughly two and a half weeks. After which, iconic musician and Culture Club lead singer Boy George will take up the mantle!

George isn’t a stranger to the Broadway stage, having performed his biographical musical “Taboo” in 2003. That illustrated the English-born singer’s rise to fame through the London club scene in the 70s and 80s. George’s iconic look and penchant for androgyny makes him a perfect fit for a show like “Moulin Rouge!.” And we’re pretty sure he’s absolutely going to kill it. The only thing we can criticize is that he’ll have to end the role in May.
“Moulin Rouge!” is based off the Bas Luhrmann film, and tells a story of love and loss against a backdrop of iconic and popular songs. Jim Broadbent played the role in the 2001 movie, alongside stars Nicole Kidman as Satine and Ewan McGregor as Christian. The musical’s current playbook has such songs as Sia‘s “Chandelier” and Katy Perry‘s “Firework.”

George will take up the role from February 6th, and will end his run on May 12th. The musician best known for “Karma Chameleon” and “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me” happily announced the news on the “Today “show. Having seen the show a number of times already, George is excited to become part of the ensemble cast, hoping he can fit in. Given the singer’s proclivity for flamboyant outfits and colorful make-up, we’re sure he won’t have any trouble.
Gosh, we can’t wait to hear him sing “The Show Must Go On!” You can watch Boy George’s announcement below:
