Things to Consider When Shopping for a Two-Story House

The big decision of buying a home demands attention to detail. When you feel ready to go for your dream house, you already have thousands of thoughts running through your mind. These often overwhelm you. You must have decided on the budget, location, and size. But have you determined whether it should be a single or two-story structure? Some buyers specifically look for two-story houses for the extra space and luxury. You can also take this route. However, get all the details about the floor height to understand the implications. Here are some valuable insights regarding this.

    Height of the two-story home

You can find a trusted real estate service provider like Sarah Naylor | Rockwall Realtors for your house-hunting needs. They can show you the best in your budget. While reliable realtors keep all the details handy, you must keep your eyes open when visiting a property. Suppose they take you to a two-story house per your requirement. At the time of the house tour, you can enquire about the total height of the house from ground level to the rooftop. On average, it should be 20 to 35 feet high. Some homes look shorter because of the roof style. For instance, a clerestory roof can appear tall, while the reality can be otherwise. You can also expect design and materials to give a specific home a tall or short appearance. Generally, tiny houses with two floors measure around 16 feet tall.

If it’s a flat roof, the overall height of the house can be 16 to 20 feet. But it will be 28-35 if the home features an A-frame top.

    Floor-wise height of the home

Some homes keep their ceilings high on the ground floor to create an illusion of spaciousness. But when you check upstairs, ceilings can be a little lower. You can like this arrangement for its ability to impart a sense of safety and coziness. Nonetheless, based on the design, the house’s first floor can be about 9-12 feet high. If you visit a condo, the ceiling will likely be around 8 feet.

Furthermore, the second level of the house can be 8 feet on average. Experts say a home’s overall height varies based on floor thickness, roof design, and ceiling height. Still, second floors are usually eight feet without any exception.

Why are two stories beneficial for homeowners?

Most people look at the choice of a two-story house from the point of view of societal status and wealth. But it can be a more affordable purchase. The floor plan allows you to build things up instead of out. You get decent square footage to create a fabulous living space for your needs. Your bedroom can be on the upper floor, so the guests don’t get any view of your personal life when they visit your home. At the same time, you can have dedicated rooms for laundry, arts and crafts, and more.

Sometimes, even experienced home buyers ignore crucial details like the number of floors and height. If you want a spacious home that goes on to serve your needs for many years down the line, consider everything thoroughly.
