Let’s explore some popular card games you can download or access on your mobile device. You might be familiar with them or not, but nothing can change the fact that they’re one of the best.

Exciting Card Games to Help You Pass the Time

Card games are some of the best forms of entertainment today. It began centuries ago and is still being enjoyed by millions of people around the world. With that said, here are some of the top card games you can play on your phone:

    Solitaire

The first game on our list is Solitaire. Also known as Patience, this card game is ideal for those with nobody to play with, as it’s a single-player game. The goal is to move all the cards from the tableau into the foundation piles in ascending order.

It’s perfect for those who enjoy puzzles and want to improve their problem-solving skills! Fortunately, you can play Solitaire games now on your PC or smartphone. Countless apps have been developed over the years, and one great example is Solitaire Bliss by Mongoose Games.

    Spades

If you’re into trick-taking games, such as Hearts and Call Breaker, why not settle with one of the originals, such as Spades? You can play spades online with a partner or individually as long as there are four players. A standard 52-card deck without the Jokes is shuffled and dealt to each player.

    How to play Spades:

    • Each player gets 13 cards
    • Players make a bid on how many tricks they’ll win in one round
    • Play the highest cards on the table to win a trick
    • The player or team wins once they reach the target points

The game mechanics are the same whether you play individually or with a partner. If you want to play spades online, there are numerous apps or browser-based platforms to try. These will keep you busy while playing with other players worldwide or against the game’s smart AI.

    Rummy

Played by two to six players, this classic card game is predominantly played in casinos due to its exciting gameplay and features. The goal is to draw and discard cards to form melds, consisting of cards with the same or runs with consecutive values.

Numerous variants of rummy exist, such as the following:

    • Gin Rummy
    • Indian Rummy
    • Contract Rummy
    • Persian Rummy

Some of these variants have different numbers of players or rules, but the elements are the same. Since it’s a popular classic game, you can find an app for your smartphone or a browser-based card game to try if you don’t want to download anything. For instance, Gin Rummy Stars – Card Game is a modernized version where you can play against thousands of players worldwide.

    Bridge

Another trick-taking game on our list is Bridge. It’s a classic where players must use their strategy and game sense to win. It’s usually played by four people split into two teams, each performing predetermined roles. Since you work with your partner, there’s more room for skillful play.

It’s essential to understand the rules and strategies of Bridge before playing since it can be complicated for beginners. It’s popular in organized club settings where extensive rules and conventions are present, which also takes some time to learn.

If you’re determined to have a good time, you can also find apps such as Tricky Bridge: Learn & Play. It has tutorials and guides to help you practice bidding and plays, which is ideal for those just starting. For more experienced challengers, you may join online tournaments to showcase your trick-taking skills.

    Pitch

Typically played by four players, Pitch is famous in the US and is played in partnerships. The game starts with six cards dealt to each player. After that, the bidding begins. Players will bid between four items they think they will have at the end of the hand.

    What are the four items?

    • High trump
    • Trick with a low trump
    • Trick with Jack of Trump
    • Highest total point value

Pitch – Expert AI is a fantastic game that will teach you how to become an effective player. You’ll be playing against the game’s AI so that you can practice and hone your skills. It will show you the suggested bids, allowing you to play and learn. For Pitch Masters, you can choose from six different levels and see if you can stand against the game’s innovative AI.

    Canasta

Played by four players, Canasta isn’t a trick-taking card game but has unique and enticing elements that will keep you hooked. It uses two standard decks or 108 cards, usually played by two partnerships.

It’s like rummy, where players must create melds of seven cards. These must be a combination of three or four cards with the same value. After that, players must “go out” and play the entire hand. You must outscore your opponents to win. In general, your team must reach 5000 points first. However, since there are many variations today, it will depend on their game rules.

    Some variations of Canasta:

    • Viennese Canasta
    • Pennies from Heaven
    • Hand and Foot

Among the three, Hand and Foot is the most popular. These have stricter rules, which is why many players choose this variation instead of the classic one, which is easier in comparison.

Try Your Hand at These Card Games Now

If you’re good at card games and want to explore more that are playable on mobile devices, this list is a great starting point. Whether you enjoy a classic solitaire game or try your trick-taking skills, you’ll find something enjoyable to play and master. You can find some great games to spice up your evenings or leisure moments with some luck.
