    Keith David to Replace Lance Reddick as “Destiny” Commander Zavala

    The passing of Lance Reddick in March was a shock to fans everywhere. The legendary character actor had given his voice to a number of video game characters. But none so iconic as Commander Zavala of “Destiny 2.” Reddick’s rich voice and commanding tone gave Zavala an amazing presence. Straddling perfectly the line between stern and compassionate in his fight for a just world. Since his passing, the question on fans’ lips has been what’s to become of Zavala’s character. Bungie has now provided an answer.

    Another voice acting powerhouse will be filling the commander’s role- the amazing Keith David.

    David is no stranger to voice acting. Just like Reddick, he is a talented actor on screen or behind a microphone. He’s been voicing cartoons, movies, and video games for several years, and has many iconic roles under his belt including Bungie title “Halo” and the “Mass Effect” games. Also, you know- Disney’s “Gargoyles.”

    Bungie announced David’s casting with a post titled “Thank you, Commander: The Future of Zavala’s Journey.”

    “Commander Zavala has been central to the story we have been telling since the original Destiny, and we have plans to continue his journey. Earlier this year, we lost Lance Reddick, the English language voice actor of Commander Zavala. The passion and professionalism Lance brought to the role over the last decade was unmistakable and loved by all. Lance’s iconic voice led us through the most intense moments in Destiny’s history and his impact on our Guardians, our community, and Bungie as a whole will never be forgotten.  Commander Zavala has been central to the story we have been telling since the original Destiny, and we have plans to continue his journey.”


    Out of respect, Lance’s pre-existing lines for the upcoming release of the expansion “The Final Shape” will not be touched. But Keith will continue the life of the character moving forward. They are big shoes to fill, and we’re more than certain David will do his absolute best.
