Sony Delays “Spider-Verse,” “Kraven,” “Ghostbusters” and More

Sony Pictures has become one of the first big studios to push back major releases already on the calendar, due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike against the AMPTP.

“Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” was set to open March 29th, 2024, but has been taken off the calendar indefinitely.

“Kraven the Hunter” is moving from October 6th 2023, to August 30th 2024

“Gran Turismo” originally was set to bow August 11th. But, because the various cast and creatives are unable to do red carpet and other press junkets, Sony is instead doing two weekends of sneak previews on August 11th-13th and August 18th-20th. It will then (maybe) open August 25th nationwide.  “The stars can’t promote the film but the audience can,” a Sony spokesperson reportedly said about the choice.

The “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” sequel (early codename “Firehouse“) had a December 20th, 2023 release date, but will now hit March 29th, 2024.

The untitled “Karate Kid” reboot was set for June 7th, 2024, but will now bow Decemeber 13th, 2024.

“Venom 3” is now dated for July 12th, 2024, with Kelly Marcel taking over as director.  “Madame Web” will now release February 14th, 2024.

We expect additional changes to happen in the coming weeks if the unions remain on strike. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
