“The Flash” Did WORSE at Box Office Than “Green Lantern”

One of the most divisive and overly-hyped super hero films from the DC universe may become one of its biggest embarrassments. “The Flash” was praised by Zack Snyder as “the best DC movie ever.” Given the track record with disappointing films, that might not actually be saying a lot. According to box office numbers, “The Flash” will end up making less than what’s considered the worst of the worst- “Green Lantern” starring Ryan Reynolds.

While it’s not far off, “Green Lantern” has better numbers than “The Flash.” According to Box Office Mojo, the movie starring the crimson blur made a total of $106.8 million. In comparison, “Green Lantern” made $116.6 million in North American. While “The Flash” made slightly more worldwide, the middling success the film has made, even available on VOD, is dismal. Which makes the immense hype and publicity surrounding the film even more disappointing. DC continues to be cursed with super-hero films that have tried to stand with Marvel Studios films, but fall extremely short. Ranging from okay to just plain bad.

Perhaps that landscape might change soon, considering DC Studios is now headed by movie makers James Gunn and Peter Safran. Gunn having successful Marvel films under his belt. And Safran’s films being at least the slightly more enjoyable of the DC movies, including “The Suicide Squad” and “Shazam.” The two are hoping to work together to rebuild the DC universe and make a clean slate for the suffering films. But considering Gunn called “The Flash” “one of the best superhero films,” we’re starting to have our doubts about his upcoming “Superman: Legacy.”
