Ryan Gosling Belts “I’m Just Ken” in “Barbie” Power Ballad

The “Barbie” movie hype train just keeps gaining momentum. In the film’s latest tease, star Ryan Gosling absolutely nails a music video for power ballad “Just Ken.”

The song for the Greta Gerwig-directed film has Gosling belting out “I’m Just Ken.” This single focuses on a lovelorn Ken who is tired of always being second banana to Barbie (Margot Robbie). This leads to him contemplating what his life really means and what it would be like without her. The music video mostly consists of shirtless and crying Gosling singing, spliced in with footage from the movie.

“Just Ken” is the latest original song released from the official “Barbie” soundtrack. Which also includes tracks from Grammy winners Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish. Mark Ronson is producing the soundtrack. Slash (Guns N’ Roses) even plays on the single.

“It was so crazy,” Ronson said about the song’s production. “[Ryan Gosling is] a huge star of this movie and only has three hours on a Tuesday afternoon to cut the vocals. He just went in and as he started to get warmed up I was like, ‘This guy is going to murder this song!’ Of course he would.”

“I’m so psyched. We worked on it for about a year after he did the vocals,” Ronson said. “After I sent him the final version, with Slash on it, he was psyched and satisfied, which is what you want to do when you’re making a sound for someone.”

The “Barbie” movie soundtrack will be available the same day the film opens in theaters, July 21st. You can check out the “Just Ken” music video below:
