“Zombieverse” Brings Zombie Apocalypse to Reality TV

Any fans of a zombies have probably read “The Zombie Survival Guide.” And many a “The Walking Dead” enthusiast will imagine whether they’d truly survive an outbreak. Would you survive? Do you think you could? What if people needed help? Would you leave them to die? Or fight through the hoards to preserve what few humans are left? Netflix‘s Korean reality show is about to answer those questions. “Zombieverse” takes Korean tv personalities and pits them against leagues of the undead in grueling challenges across the city of Seoul.

    “Zombieverse” Netflix

This is an extremely ambitious thought experiment brought to life. The locations aren’t sets, either. They’re actual places across Seoul. A lot of zombie films have employed CGI to increase the hoard of undead numbers. But these droves of zombies are all real, baby! Which also means a massive amount of make-up and costuming, and a massive amount of coordination. Quite possibly tons of fun for all those extras, though we’ll see how the reality treats the contestants. Certainly, it’s all just silly humans making a silly game. But sometimes immersion can really toy with your head.

Survive Or Be Claimed By The Hoard

Luckily the rules are simple. Complete the challenges to survive. Find food, water, transportation, and shelter while avoiding the zombies. If you get bitten? Well, sadly you’ll be out of the game. As with most zombie lore, a bite is a death sentence. Now, those savvy to the hungry hoards know that duct tape around the arms and legs is a decent strategy. And a trash can lid can often save your life. But we’ll see if those are allowed. The trailer gives us a few of the contestants for the first season. Park Na-rae, rapper DinDin, former baseball pitcher Yoo Hee-kwan, and Kim Jin-young of “Single’s Inferno 2,” along with others.

“Zombieverse” premieres August 8th, only on Netflix.
