We never thought we’d be excited for anything to do with a giant purple dinosaur from our imagination, but, here we are. Daniel Kaluuya‘s upcoming “Barney” film, which was first announced back in 2019, is apparently going to be geared more towards adults than kids. Perhaps due to “Barbie” targeting….whatever audience it’s targeting…creatives on this project have found their way.
“We’re leaning into the millennial angst of the property rather than fine-tuning this for kids,” Mattel Film executive Kevin McKeon said.

“Barney” will focus on the trials and tribulations of a thirty something who grew up watching the show. They also mention the disenchantment that comes along with our generation. Probably because when Gen Z grew up we realized it wasn’t all gumdrops and lollipops. And that getting the mail wasn’t as fun when it’s all bills addressed to you.

“Barney was a ubiquitous figure in many of our childhoods, then he disappeared into the shadows, left misunderstood,” Kaluuya said when the project was first announced. “We’re excited to explore this compelling modern-day hero and see if his message of ‘I love you, you love me’ can stand the test of time.”
The film doesn’t have a release date yet. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
