San Antonio Airport Investigating Tragic Death of Tarmac Worker

A tragic death has occurred at San Antonio Airport. As a Delta Airlines flight was taxiing to its parking spot, a worker was “ingested” into one of the engines, which was still running, something that generally isn’t supposed to happen.

The National Transportation Safety Board is currently running an investigation into the incident. “We are heartbroken and grieving the loss of an aviation family member’s life in San Antonio,” Delta airlines said in a statement. “Our hearts and full support are with their family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.”

The worker in question was a member of Unifi Aviation, who have also shared their condolences and findings. “From our initial investigation, this incident was unrelated to Unifi’s operational processes, safety procedures and policies. Out of respect for the deceased, we will not be sharing any additional information. While police and other officials continue to investigate this incident, we defer to them on providing further details.”

Apparently this isn’t an isolated incident. As a ramp agent was tragically killed in the same Montgomery Regional Airport in Alabama. Despite workers’ attempts to warn her to keep her distance. Either way, it would seem that there need to be some significant steps taken to re-evaluate employee safety and observing safety protocols on and near the tarmac. Our hearts go out to the families who lost their loved ones in such an awful way.
