Monkey Island Crossover Announced For Sea Of Thieves At Xbox Games Showcase

Players will soon be able to visit the iconic Monkey Island and meet Guybrush Threepwood in Sea of Thieves! Announced at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 11, 2023, as part of the NotE3 extravaganza, The Legend of Monkey Island will bring a Monkey Island crossover to Sea of Thieves. The expansion will be released in three parts starting in July and will have players embark on an adventure with the legendary Monkey Island cast and locations. Pirate fans will be in for a treat as the celebrated point-and-click adventure gets transformed into an immersive first-person experience in Sea of Thieves.

Guybrush and his friends are headed to Sea of Thieves

Created in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, the creator of the original Monkey Island series, the crossover includes three Tall Tales that will make up The Legend of Monkey Island. Sea of Thieves players will have the chance to jump into the crossover adventure for free and meet the iconic characters from the original game. Starting July 20, the three-part expansion will be released in monthly installments and tell a brand-new story featuring many of the familiar faces and voices. As you head across the Sea of the Damned to Monkey Island, you’ll meet legendary Guybrush Threepwood and his betrothed, Elaine. LeChuck, the ghost captain, and Murray the Demonic Talking Skull will also make an appearance and bring Monkey Island into the pirate adventure game. You will be able to visit and freely explore iconic locations, gawk at the legendary monkey head on Monkey Island, make your way to Mêlée Island, take a seat and beverage at Scumm Bar, and much more.

By bringing the iconic point-and-click adventure into the modern first-person pirate game, you’ll experience the Sea of Thieves from a brand-new perspective and dive into the legends of Guybrush and Co. with a modern, immersive take. To give justice to the long-running series and keep the essence of the original, The Legend of Monkey Island will feature the beloved puzzle gameplay, in-depth dialogue with the characters, and the familiar humor and whimsy from the Monkey Island games.

Anyone who has been playing Sea of Thieves for a while and who jumped into the game’s last free crossover with Pirates of the Caribbean back in 2021, might have already seen this new expansion coming. In A Pirate’s Life you didn’t just get to meet Captain Jack Sparrow himself in Sea of Thieves, the expansion also saw a big Monkey Island Easter Egg that had fans wondering already then whether Guybrush and his crew would make their way into Rare’s game. Now, the Monkey Island crossover is setting sail, with the first part of the Tall Tale making landfall on July 20, 2023.

    Pirates sailing onto our screens

Celebrated games such as the long-running Monkey Island series prove time and again that gamers are always in for a swashbuckling adventure. Pirate games never go out of style, with new titles from all kinds of genres appearing on the horizon regularly. Monkey Island and Sea of Thieves are only two of many. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag from 2013, for instance, is another celebrated pirate game in Ubisoft’s AC series, while GreedFall from 2019 successfully turned pirate adventures into an RPG. Mobile games such as Plunder Pirates and Pirate Kings let you fight and plunder your friends on your phone to become the best pirate of the sea completely for free. The pirates have also sailed right into the world of classic casino games, where they have inspired the creation of a number of online slot machines. Experts have reviewed and rated many of the best platforms offering a no deposit bonus, which lets players try out slots for free without the need for a deposit. Within their libraries, you find slots such as Pirate Gold, Pirate’s Quest, and Age of Pirates, all of which depict pirates and pirate-themed symbols on their reels. These games show that pirate games from any genre continue to draw players in. Now, a pirate game classic is coming to the modern Sea of Thieves.

The Legend of Monkey Island will bring Guybrush and Co. to the Sea of Thieves. Uniting the classic series from the 90s with the modern first-person adventure, players will experience both worlds from a new perspective. The first of three Tall Tale parts will release on Xbox and PC for free on July 20. Just as the base game, the crossover will also be available via Xbox Game Pass on day one.
