Every spooky season General Mills rolls out its iconic line of monster themed cereals. This year the company announced it will be adding a new character for the first time in 35 years, named Carmella Creeper!

In March of 1971, General Mills released their first monster cereals with Count Chocula and Franken Berry. Being the only chocolate and strawberry flavored cereals on the market at the time, they became and instant hit. Since then the line added Boo Berry in 1972, but that didn’t go national until 1973. In 1974 Fruit Brute joined the family, and Yummy Mummy was released in 1988. Though the last two have only been available intermittently since their inception.

Count Chocula, Franken Berry, and  Boo Berry were avalible year round until 2009. After that they only hit store shelves once a year around Halloween. Which has only strengthen the demand for these spooky cereals.

Carmella Creeper Will be the first mascot they have added in 35 year, she is also the first woman in the group! This zombie-themed character will grace the boxes of a new caramel apple-flavored cereal.

“Carmella Creeper is the long-lost cousin of Franken Berry as well as a zombie DJ with an edgy sound who is always the life of the party,” says General Mills. “Complete with a fierce attitude and looks to match, Carmella is ready to shake things up at the Monsters’ haunted mansion with her limited-edition cereal featuring caramel-apple-flavored pieces with colored Monster marshmallows.”

Adding, “The gang is even coming together for the launch of Monster Mash Remix Cereal: A mix of all six Monsters Cereals flavors (Carmella Creeper, Frute Brute, Count Chocula, Boo Berry, Franken Berry and Yummy Mummy).”

This line up of monsters cereals is set to hit retailers nationwide later this summer. Boxes go for $3.99 for the regular sized, and $4.93 for a family sized box.
