Stay at the House That Inspired “The Conjuring”

Anyone who loves a good ghost movie has seen “The Conjuring.” The movie that started the franchise and the interest in the lives of real-life paranormalists Lorraine and Ed Warren. (Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson portray the real life couple in the film series.) “The Conjuring” has created an entire cinematic universe unto itself. With “The Nun 2” coming out this fall and “The Conjuring: Last Rites” serving as the 4th film in the franchise. But for those looking for an even more realistic thrill, ghost-hunters and horror fans can stay on the grounds of the house that inspired the film.

If you’re expecting the house from “The Conjuring,” you may have to temper some expectations. The house the film is based on looks nothing like what the movie depicted. To start, the house is only one story, and the epitome of rustic. Not really in keeping with the colonial-style two-story that served as a spooky setting for the horror film. Regardless of look, anyone who believes in the paranormal counts this as a must-see, must-stay for unforgettable experiences.

Will you find some ghostly visitors like the Warrens? — “The Conjuring 2” Warner Bros. Pictures, Atomic Monster

For $300 a night, guests can camp out on the haunted grounds of the home that inspired the massive horror franchise, located in Burrillville, Rhode Island. Eight camping locations have been set up around the house by the current owners. And while entry to the actual house isn’t permitted for this package, ghost hunting around the grounds is greatly encouraged. Though, you’ll have to bring your own equipment. If you do wish to explore the house and the chills it might contain, you may sign up for guided tours or a night’s stay. Though according to many, the grounds are just as deeply haunted as the house.
