It has been a wild ride for Twitter over the last year. In April of 2022, Elon Musk entered into an agreement to purchase the company. He tried to back out of the deal, and got threatened with a lawsuit for doing so. He eventually became the CEO of the social media company, making changes that were largely hated. He then merged it with X Corp, as well as firing something like 80% of the entire staff.
There’s a lot of other things too, including a Twitter poll he posted in December 2022, asking if he should step down as CEO. Voters said yes, but alas, Musk is still around. That seems to finally be changing according to Musk himself.

Musk stated he would abide by the results of the poll that effectively voted him out as CEO as soon as he could find someone else to take the job. It took about half a year, but a replacement has been found and will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
As of today, we know the incoming CEO will be Linda Yaccarino. Yaccarino is the advertising executive for NBCUniversal, and does sound like a strategy. The Tesla CEO has frequently commented on Twitter’s lack of profitability, and who better to try and turn that ship around than an advertising executive? Just because it’s logical doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed though. We’ll have to wait for official word to see who Musk’s replacement will actually be at Twitter.
As for Musk himself, he notes that he’ll be switching over to an executive chair and CTO (Chief Technology Officer). How hands-on or off he’ll be in this position is anyone’s guess as the billionaire has simultaneously expressed displeasure with his position at Twitter while also being willing to micromanage it and use it as a bully pulpit. Or to put it another way, controversy has tended to follow Musk’s tenure with Twitter and it’s doubtful that will come to an end. Perhaps there’ll be a bit less controversy, but only time will tell.
