The “Super Mario Bros. Movie” shows no signs of slowing down at the box office yet, crossing the $1 billion mark in just under four weeks, becoming the first video game based film to do to. “Sonic the Hedgehog” (2019), just before the pandemic caused lockdown only earned about $319.71 million. The sequel in 2022 was hailed as the movie that made the most as a gaming film ever, making over $331.64 million. The “Super Mario Bros. Movie” has now left them both in the dust at $1,026,376,630 according to Box Office Mojo.
It’s no wonder that the “Super Mario Bros. Movie” had made so much either and kept people coming back. First of all the runtime is just about an hour and thirty minutes which makes it a great film to be able to pop into. Second the characters we love are prominently featured in it. And thirdly it’s literally for all ages, you can take your three year old and they’ll keep their attention on the screen. It’s like magic.

Our own critic had great things to say about the film. For those who were worried Chris Pratt would ruin Mario, many people were pleasantly surprised to hear that he did a fine job. There were parts where he could have leaned into the Italian accent a little more, but he was probably advised not to by production.
The film is still playing in theaters now. You can find tickets here.
