New IPL Toss Rule | How will it affect the selection of an Impact Player?

The new IPL toss rule will be introduced from IPL 2023. This rule will help captains finalise their playing 11 after the toss. Earlier, captains had to exchange the playing 11 before the toss. But now they can bring a sheet of 15 players and select the final 11-member squad after the toss. It becomes especially crucial while picking an impact player, as the captain gets an idea of whom he wants as his impact player.

IPL is following in the footsteps of the SA20 League, where this rule was first introduced. What this rule does is that it eliminates the advantage that a toss-winning team gets. In the recently concluded SA20 league, out of 31 matches, teams winning the toss won 15 matches and lost 16. Plus, in India, dew also plays a crucial role. The team bowling second can replace a spinner with a pace bowler.

It might take some time for teams and players to get used to the new rules, but you don’t have to wait before betting on a cricket match; download a reliable online cricket betting app and get started.

New IPL Toss Rule & Selection of an Impact Player?

Consider you are captaining an IPL side and have to select your impact player before the toss. You will be confused about whether to go with a bowler or a batter; you could take a safer route and go with an all-rounder.

According to the new IPL toss rule, a captain knows what he will do first. He can pick a specialist bowler or a batter, depending on whether his team is batting or bowling first. Generally, the chances of a specialised bowler or a batter executing the skills better are higher.

    Impact Player Rule Explained

The impact player is a new rule that will be part of IPL, starting from the 2023 season. This rule has already been implemented in the Big Bash League (known as X-Factor) and only added to the excitement levels of a T20 game.

Mostly the impact player will be an Indian player. A foreign player can be an impact player only when the playing 11 of that side has less than four foreign players. The player subbed instead of an impact player can take no further part in the game, not even as a substitute fielder.

When can an Impact Player be Introduced?

A captain can bring an impact player at the start of the innings, at the end of the over, at the fall of a wicket, or when a batter retires (replaced by an impact player).

If a bowling team brings in an impact player after a fall of a wicket or when a batter retires, that impact player cannot complete the remaining over and has to wait for the over to finish.

Who should be an Impact Player?

An impact player can change the game’s momentum in a few balls. If a batting team is going for an impact player, it could be someone like Shahrukh Khan. A bowling team can go with a bowler who can close the innings well, take wickets, and contain the batters.

Bet on IPL to be an impact player in real life.

    Other New IPL Rules

Along with the new IPL toss rule, IPL will have some other new rules this season. Already the most eye-catching and loaded with talent T20 league, IPL will achieve new heights with the new rules. Following are new IPL rules to be implemented from IPL 2023

    • At the end of the stipulated time for bowling 20 overs, only four fielders will be allowed to field outside the 30-yard circle.
    • There will be a five-run penalty for unfair movement of the wicket-keeper and fielders. Also, it will be considered a dead ball.
    • A team must have a 15-player team sheet, and one player from the same will be an impact player.

Final Thoughts on New IPL Toss Rule

The new IPL toss rule will bring much clarity to the teams and help them decide the playing 11 effectively. The heavy reliance on a toss to win games will be neutralized. Based on the toss result, a captain can pick his impact player.

With the new IPL toss rule, an impact player rule will also become more significant. Teams must formulate intelligent strategies, and the one that makes the best strategies around new rules will have a higher chance of winning.
