Tommy Wiseau’s Horror Movie “Big Shark” Gets First Trailer

Director of the 2003 cult hit “The Room” Tommy Wiseau is returning to the big screen with “Big Shark.” While it was originally announced back in 2019, the first trailer has just been released online. The trailer has been playing for audiences at theatrical screenings of “The Room” for months now.

We promise you, the trailer is just as unhinged as you’d probably expect from the eccentric filmmaker.

“Big Shark” will follow three firefighters, Georgie, Patrick, and Tim, as they work to save New Orleans from an attack by a very big shark. The trailer has all the CGI shark-battling action you’d expect. That is, before it inexplicably turns into an underwear ad. Don’t ask, Jake, it’s Tommy Wiseau.

The film will kick off its rollout on April 2 with a debut screening at Cinema 21 in Portland, Oregon. Then there are tentative screens for “Big Shark” scheduled for:

    • April 28 and 29 – Prytania Theatres at Canal Place in New Orleans
    • May 5 and 6 – the Balboa Theatre in San Francisco, California
    • June 2 and 3 –  the Landmark Westwood in Los Angeles, California
    • August 10, 11, and 12 – the Village East by Angelika in New York City, New York

And as an extra treat, Wiseau plans to appear in person, for this first series of “Pre Premier” screenings. This rollout is planned to go on for about eight months. Eventually culminating with the release of the “Official Final Cut Version” of “Big Shark.”

In true Wiseau fashion, he will not only be directing, but he wrote the script and is starring alongside Isaiah LaBorde and Mark Valeriano. The original 2019 announcement for “Big Shark” had Greg Sestero (“The Room,” author of “The Disaster Artist”) listed as a lead. While it is clear he is no longer starring in the project, it is currently unclear if he still has any involvement in it.

“Big Shark” will be Wiseau’s return to directing for the big screen after his ultra-serious, and never memed, debut film. He never stopped working in front of and behind the camera. In 2004 he made the short documentary “Homeless in America.” In 2009 he appeared on an episode of  “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!”

Which makes sense considering how much Adult Swim pushed the popularity of “The Room.” Series stars Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, were also both heavily involved with its promotion.

He wrote, directed, created, and starred in Hulu’s 2015 six-episode sitcom, “The Neighbors.” And in 2017, he starred alongside Sestero in “Best F(r)iends,” a two-part thriller that was also written by Sestero.
