Ah, Easter. A religious holiday that, for most of us, means bunnies, candy, and marshmallow Peeps galore. But something looms on the horizon this year that’s a sight more unique. Something translucent and cherry-red. And, were it not polystone, extremely sticky. A gummi bear fetus from the mind of Mighty Jaxx artist Jason Freeny.
Titled the Immaculate Confection, this gummi bear is just about ready to be born. Apparently sculpted in polystone to mimic the translucency of the delectable candy, this looks good enough to eat. With its tiny limbs and huge eyes, it’s actually quite charming, even with an umbilical cord. The gummi bear was originally an illustration by Freeny in 2008. 2021 saw it turned into a buyable statue. But only 5 were made as they were hand-sculpted. The in-utero gummi is available for purchase from Mighty Jaxx.
Freeny’s designs are adorably morbid. Mighty Jaxx is known for Freeny’s Dissectibles line. From bisected cartoon characters like Spongebob Squarepants, to the delightful Sanrio characters, Freeny’s work combines bright colors and simplicity with mildly realistic anatomy. It creates a fascination that’s hard to resist, and collecting all of them can be hard on one’s wallet. But boy howdy, do some of us try. In fact, it’s unlikely for you to land a gummi fetus if you’re trying to act now.
Pre-orders opened on March 17th for VIPs, and March 18th for general public. Sad to say, the translucent ruby bear sold out straightaway.
