Everyone loves a mystery. Ever since the creation of Sherlock Holmes, people have loved to absorb the drama and intrigue of a whodunnit. Plenty of us spent our time watching a specific iteration of Holmes on television. Someone who had to walk over sidewalk cracks, even everything out, and needed wet wipes after shaking hands. That’s right, we’re talking about Adrian Monk, played by the amazingly talented Tony Shaloub. And he’s coming back for a movie at Peacock written by “Monk” series creator Andy Breckman!

Series executive producer David Hoberman and Randy Zisk (who directed 35 episodes of the show) will also be returning for the film. Of course, one has to wonder, what more is there for Adrian Monk to do? The series finale saw him finally solve the one mystery that eluded him. And his payoff was the revelation of stepdaughter, Molly. Well, as it turns out, that’s who’s going to be involved in this upcoming movie. Titled “Mr. Monk’s Last Case,” Adrian will be helping with a case surrounding Molly as she prepares for her wedding.
Hopeful for a Film Done Right
We’ll be seeing a lot of familiar faces returning as well. Traylor Howard, who played Monk’s second assistant Natalie Teeger, Ted Levine, and Jason Gray-Stanford will be returning as the loveable duo of Leland Stottlemeyer and Randy Disher. Also returning are Hector Elizondo as Monk’s therapist Dr. Bell, and Melora Hardin who was Monk’s wife Trudy in flashbacks.

There’s a lot of excitement from NBC regarding the new venture. “When creator Andy Breckman came to us with a new Monk case set in present day, we immediately fell in love with this story all over again,” Michael Sluchan, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming’s Vice President of Movies, Kids and Daytime, said. “The movie has the heart and humor of the original series with a contemporary relevance, and we’re overjoyed to work with the original creative team…”
Naturally there’s some worry about the revival of a series that wrapped itself up with a nice bow, so hopefully it’ll just feel like visiting old friends and not like it’s trying too hard. Fingers crossed!
