Something has survived; a relic of the ancient world. Huge jaws made for crunching through bones in a single snap. A massive body of scales perfect for protection, and a muscled tail perfect for gliding through water. Sound like a dinosaur? It may as well be. A golfer’s game in Sebring, Florida was stalled when he came across an absolutely massive alligator sunning itself on the green.
Rich Louty was playing a round of golf at the Spring Lake Club when he came across the absolute unit of a reptile and snapped a photo. WFLA asked for an estimation of the size, to which Louty surmised the gator was at least 10 feet long. Apparently, the gator’s female and has been a gigantic resident of the golf course for some time.

“She’s a big one. The locals know she’s a mama gator because they’ve seen her babies over the years…The guys in the cart shop will steer her toward the water if they have to but they rarely do that. Everybody does their best to leave her be.” says Louty. Sound and common advice for a place like Florida, in which alligators commonly find their way to golf course ponds and lakes.
Many commented on the massive gator. WINK chief meteorologist Matt Devit posted humorously on Facebook, “Welcome to Florida, home to Jurassic Park”. Another person commented they’d lived in Florida all their life, and had never seen an alligator that size before.
If she’s a course regular, we’re wildly curious if this beast of a gator has a nickname.
