Florida Man Calls Wrong Police Trying to Threaten Hollywood Sign

While this is NOT truly a Florida Man story, it kind of is? This time, a Los Angeles man has involved Florida by accident. Police in Hollywood, Florida received a call from a man threatening to blow up the iconic Hollywood sign. Hoping to cause a reaction or instill fear, the man got his wires severely crossed.

The Broward County Sherrif’s Dept. dispatchers answered the call meant for Hollywood, California. But apparently the bumbling wannabe super villain couldn’t even look up phone numbers properly. He called Hollywood, Florida hoping to cause trouble. While there are two Hollywoods in the United States, they’re on complete opposite sides of the country.

About 27,000 miles away is Hollywood, FL, US Census Bureau

The man in question demanded $10,000 to stop him from blowing it up. But once the correct authorities had been notified, investigations proved it to be a hoax. This mysterious mad bomber was either drunk, desperate, or just looking to cause authorities trouble.

Whatever the reason, it might be prudent to do your homework the next time you decide you want to cause the police trouble. Ensure you’re calling the correct state next time. Workshop it with some friends, maybe. Or you could, you know, not do that at all. Spare yourself the embarrassment, jerkiness, and potential jail time for trying to blow up an historic landmark. Plus, if you got it that wrong, maybe a career as a comic-book villain isn’t for you.
