Movies are great, they can inspire you to do many crazy things and sometimes even decide what career choices you will make as an adult. In the financial world, there are a few movies that are recommended to watch for anyone who is interested in financial markets. We tried to collect the best titles that contain valuable lessons and provide value besides being fun to watch. What is better than watching an entertaining movie about a favorite topic? So, pick your favorite snacks and get ready to dive into the trading world of movies.

Our top picks for the movies about stocks and Wall Street

We tried to pick the best movies for you. For more interesting movies about stock markets, check out these movies that are also recommended to watch.

    Paramount Pictures
    1. The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) – this movie is often missed from top movies about stocks and the financial world in general, which is unfortunate as it is one of the closest to reality movies. Everyone should watch Leonardo DiCaprio’s excellent portrayal of Jordan Belfort who made himself known through the book of the same name. He scammed many people with their hard-earned money and therefore is a superb movie to watch, it can also help unsuspecting people avoid common financial scams and frauds. This movie is jammed with so many bad habits and what not to do that you never want to miss lessons offered in it.
    2. Wall Street (1987) – This movie starring Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen is another must-watch for anyone interested in stock markets as it touches many sensitive topics and ethics in the financial trading world. The actors do a fantastic job of portraying the characters who are greedy and eager to get to the top and do many illegal and suspicious activities for achieving their goals.
    3. The Big Short (2015) – If you are not following Michael Burry on Twitter, stop reading this article and come back after you follow him. Christian Bale, as usual, made a great portrayal of a famous hedge fund manager and investor in a movie where a group of individuals bets against the US’s mortgage market. The movie is about the 2008 crisis and is a must-watch for any investor or stock market trader.
    4. Margin Call (2011) – is another fantastic movie about the 2008 crisis. There are so many star actors in this movie that it is almost a criminal act to miss it. The movie provides a view from inside the big investment bank and allows viewers to follow the main character and the 2008 crisis development from an insider’s perspective. The movie includes stars Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, and Demi Moore to name a few. Just make sure you get enough snacks and enjoy this amazing movie.
    5. Boiler Room (2000) is another great movie about stock markets. This movie shows how sometimes the parent’s high standards make their children try and achieve success with shady practices. Great lesson for parents and students with stock markets flavor. Giovanni Ribisi, Vin Diesel, and many more fantastic actors are doing a great job of portraying characters flawlessly.
    Regency

Honorable mentions that are worthy of checking

    • Rogue Trader (2000) – Ewan Mcgregor and Anna Friel are playing characters based on real-world people and events. The story outlines how the bad habits of a trader made one of the oldest British banks suffer. In which way the bank suffered and how great the damage was is not the scope of this article, so make sure you watch it. This movie clearly shows that ambitions need to be controlled to healthy levels.
    • Other People’s Money (1991) – This classic movie from the 90s starring Gregory Peck and Danny DeVito is a popular stock markets movie. It describes how a successful corporate raider wants to buy another company, and this is where our spoilers stop. This movie is a nice addition to your stock market’s movie list to watch.
    • Inside Job (2010) – another view of the 2008 crisis and its causes. The movie is rated 8.2 on IMDB and deserves to be checked. Matt Damon as usual does a fantastic job narrating the story, while Charles Ferguson is its director. It is worth mentioning that this movie is a documentary and is therefore a must-watch.

After watching these movies, the readers will have a better idea of how the global stock market and financial markets are working and who can affect its healthy behavior. And how sometimes greed can result in a massive loss of jobs affecting millions of people.

    Key takeaways

Several top-class movies are describing the most important historic crises and global events that had a critical impact on stock markets and the entire world. You do not want to miss the movies mentioned above if you are serious about trading or are interested in stock markets and finances in general.  Wolf of Wall Street, The Big Short, and Wall Street are among the movies you don’t want to miss. Besides these most popular classics, there are other movies that are worthy of mentioning. These movies show how uncontrolled greed and ambitions paired with hype can cause massive damage to the economy and millions of people around the world.
