Let’s Talk The Numbers: How Popular Is World Of Warcraft?

Today, World of Warcraft is one of the most popular multiplayer online role-playing games, as you will hardly find any gamer who does not know this game. However, popularity does not equal numbers, as a game could be popular for all the wrong reasons. Many argue that World of Warcraft is not only on top of the pyramid when it comes to popularity but also maintains that spot as the most loved one by MMORPG players. In contrast, many players know that WOW has declined for a while as the Activision Blizzard company has struggled to maintain its player numbers, particularly by promotion of WOW coupons and codes. However, let’s see what the numbers have to say in 2023.

    WOW Players Track Record

Ever since it was created, World of Warcraft has remained popular among MMORPG players every year, even as new games of interest are released. However, 2021 proved to be a challenge for the Blizzard company as a lawsuit against the company led to a massive decline in numbers for them. Other major players in the market, of course, could not miss this moment and began to actively promote their products through different platforms, such as Eneba, offering the Eneba discount code or providing additional benefits.

During that period, the company tried its best to regain its stability and even released WOW Buring Crusade Classic and Diablo 2 Ressurected the same year, but that did not seem to help matters as the company still recorded a loss of over five million users that year. All of these games, including the widely anticipated WOW Shadowlands, failed to live up to the hype as players generally lacked interest in them. Hence, it was unsure if World of Warcraft could bounce back from such a challenge.

World Of Warcraft Recovery: Players Estimate In 2023

2022 came with a glimmer of hope as the published by bought out by Microsoft. This bayou immediately helped to regain interest in World of Warcraft, especially as new additions were made, making 2022 a great year for the company.

As of December 2022, we discovered that World of Warcraft had a lot of players showing interest in the game and going on adventures daily, which was a good look for the gaming company. The number of players who also used to get discounts during their gameplay was impressive as it hit a record level high.

Surprisingly, January’s record has outperformed December’s as the player’s estimate this year has increased significantly: approximately 2.4 million players have continued their WOW adventures in the first month of 2023. As the official player count has not been released for January 2023, this estimation was derived from the number of new subscribers developing an interest in WOW’s adventures and the buzz of the game online. Regardless, this estimate is impressive, as only the best games can pull in millions of players in a month.

    WOW Experiences Competition Today

WOW is known to be the leading game in the MMORPG world. However, it has always been challenging to maintain that title for a long time as the competition is always fierce. Every year and every gaming season, there is always a new competition, desperately trying to outperform others and take the crown as the best.

This time, World of Warcraft faces competition from not just one or two games but several remarkable ones, including the likes of Guild Wars 2 and FFXIV, which have both been hot topics among gamers of late. FFXIV has begun to attract the attention of even more players globally at a steady pace. Guild Wars 2 has continued to increase in population and number of subscribers every month as it continues to expand.

World Of Warcraft’s Numbers Compared To Competitors

Judging from the numbers, one can conclude that World of Warcraft remains on top of the pyramid despite the challenges it has faced over time as it has managed to separate itself from other competitors through a wide margin. With an estimated player count of over 120 million, no single MMORPG comes close to WOW, as the second in line has an estimate of only 40 million players (Guild Wars 2).
