Fans of the Deadpool franchise have been eagerly awaiting news about the upcoming third installment. Ryan Reynolds took to Twitter to make a major announcement. Emma Corrin, Emmy-nominated actress for her role as Princess Diana Spencer in “The Crown,” has been added to the cast.

Reynolds referred to Corrin as a “new addition to the family,” adding the “Deadpool family, for clarity.” He then made a tongue-in-cheek comment about the difference between the Deadpool family and a real family. Reynolds said “Which is just like a real family except with less swearing… Welcome, Emma Corrin!”

While character details have not been revealed, it is believed Corrin will be playing the film’s villain. This will not be her first time delving into the world of comic book adaptations. She previously worked on the Batman prequel “Pennyworth,” and will be appearing in the upcoming Harry Styles film “My Policeman.”

The first two “Deadpool” films were huge successes helping bring both the character and Reynolds to new levels of popularity. With Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, the property has moved over to Disney-owned Marvel Studios. “Deadpool 3” will be the first R-rated film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Perhaps the biggest surprise for fans is that Hugh Jackman is returning to his role as Wolverine, despite previously stating 2017’s “Logan” would be his final time playing the character. The news of his involvement came in September of 2022, and has only added to the excitement surrounding the film.

Shawn Levy, who previously worked with Reynolds in “Free Guy” and “The Adam Project,” is directing “Deadpool 3.” Levy also directed Jackman in “Real Steel,” and has expressed interest in directing the two actors in the past. While he was not specifically referring to “Deadpool 3,” Levy told The Hollywood Reporter he wanted to direct the actors in “a big, fat bromance sandwich of a movie, because the world wants the Hugh Jackman-Ryan Reynolds movie.”

With the addition of Emma Corrin to the cast, the return of Hugh Jackman, and the prospect of an R-rated MCU film have made “Deadpool 3” a highly anticipated release.

“Deadpool 3” is set to hit theaters November 8th, 2024.
