Cate Blanchette Doesn’t Understand How Margot Robbie Can Love Heavy Metal

“The Graham Norton Show” seems to be the place for celebrity points of contention. Fans of Henry Cavill defended his love of painting Warhammer tabletop figures after Graham Norton chided him for his nerdiness. A more heated discussion has occurred between Margot Robbie and Cate Blanchette on the show, over heavy metal.

Norton asked if Robbie was a goth in her youth. She responded she was at least somewhat into the scene. “Don’t know if I was full goth…Very emo, though,” Robbie said. “And I listened to, like, only heavy metal music. And I would dye my hair black, and only cut it with a razor blade.”

Incredulous that anyone could possibly like heavy metal, Blanchette had to ask Robbie for clarification. “Does anyone like heavy metal music? Was that something you genuinely liked?,” she posed to Robbie, seeming flabbergasted that the actress could listen to it as a form of music seriously.

Robbie shot back that she still every much enjoys it and likes bands like Slipknot and Bullet for My Valentine. She’s never been shy about enjoying heavy metal, either. Though Blanchette seemed less than convinced. “So it’s family listening?” she joked. Not that that has much bearing on whether or not music is good or not.

For someone who nerds out over being an elf in “The Lord of the Rings,” it seems mildly unfair for Blanchette to judge. Ain’t nothing wrong with metal. You’re alright in our book, Margot. You keep jamming out to your head-bangers.
