Studio Ghibli may have just teased a possible collaboration with Lucasfilm. A simple video featured the logo for Lucasfilm as well as the iconic Studio Ghibli blue screen with Totoro.
Could this be a tease of future projects to come? Ideally fans of both Star Wars and Ghibli would want to see something with creatures in it. Ewoks shorts? That would be cool. There’s been a ton of fanart of the two mashed up so seeing it official will be pretty special.
Back in the 2000s, Disney had distribution rights to a lot of Ghibli’s catalog. Some tiles such as “Princess Mononoke” were deemed too adult to have the Disney label on it. They eventually sold all theatrical and distribution rights to a company called GKIDS. Was it unwise for Disney to sell the rights to distribution in the United States? Probably.
At present, there is no confirmed information about any actual collaboration. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
