In honor of World Vegan Day (November 1st), Oscar Mayer has asked people to abstain from eating bacon. The meat company is asking people to #BacOff for a chance to win a lifetime supply of meat candy.
A recent survey showed more than 50%of vegans have abandoned their diet for bacon. The same study showed 63% of vegans wish they could eat bacon. 59% said the smell of it cooking still drives a craving. And 56% of respondents are tempted by its delicious taste making bacon is the ultimate “gateway meat.” But to be totally transparent, the survey was commissioned by Oscar Mayer, and polled only 1,000 participants. Which is a really small sample size.
Despite the validity of the study, Oscar Mayer is asking meat enthusiasts to help fight the good fight. By simply abstaining from eating bacon for one day. To show that the brand is serious they are even pulling bacon from paid media, and censoring/blurring/removing it from social media for the day.
“Deliciously tempting bacon, smoked with real wood smoke for 12 hours, can be tough for those who wish to give up meat,” Anne Field, Head of North American Brand Communications, Oscar Mayer, Kraft Heinz Company, said. “That’s why we’re doing our part to celebrate World Vegan Day by removing the bacon-y temptation our advertising creates and rewarding those who make the tough choice to abstain from the irresistible. Don’t Bac-On, Bac-Off.”
