There are many challenges when moving into a new home. The moving process itself is a hassle, not to mention having to meet the neighbors, do changes of address, get the cable and internet hooked up, and deal with a random person carrying a pickaxe and hellbent on destroying the windows in your home. What, you’ve never had the latter of those happen to you? Okay, so you’re not the Tchoukadarian family from Pasadena, CA who had that exactly situation happen to them October 24th.
Homeowner Arman Tchoukadarian was having a normal day when he received a notification from his doorbell camera. The notification wasn’t…exactly…normal, as it was a 2 second video of a woman trying to destroy the front door with a pickaxe. Tchoukadarian’s mother-in-law was home babysitting a newborn, and upon hearing the noise, ran to grab the child. It’s a good thing she did, because the strange woman’s assault continued beyond the door. She started going at the windows.
Fortunately, no one was hurt. But by the time police responded to the scene, the woman with the pickaxe had left. Thanks to help from people in the neighborhood the woman was tracked down and identified as Beverly Baker. There is no known association between Baker and Tchoukadarian, making her attacking the home even more unusual.
Baker eventually surrendered to the police after a stand-off that lasted a half-hour. For the time being, police chalked the attack up to a “mental health crisis.” They did not however explain where she got the pickaxe. Who randomly just owns a pickaxe? She reportedly caused $20,000 of damage.
Tchoukadarian remains undeterred in enjoying his new home.
