Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland. As one of the leading centres of heavy industry in the past, today it has become a popular tourist destination in the United Kingdom. The list of its sights is amazing. You can go to the science center, the botanical garden, and the cathedral, and find many other sights within the city. However, the main highlights of Glasgow are located outside the urban area.

Yes, a lot of amazing spots are available within a short driving distance, and you can easily get to them if you hire a car. Numerous Glasgow Airport car hire offers make it possible to choose the best vehicle for your special needs. As a result, your trip promises to be easy and comfortable.

You still haven’t decided where to go in Glasgow? Check out four great road trips you can enjoy with your rental car!

    Calderglen Country Park

This park is a famous outdoor destination in Scotland. Here, children and adults can find something to their liking. On the territory, you will find a zoo with monkeys, ponies, donkeys, kangaroos, and many other animals. Also, you get access to an exhibition hall and a play area for children.

Calderglen Country Park is located in East Kilbride, in a picturesque valley within 30 minutes drive from Glasgow. This place is great for walking as well. Many magnificent gardens with hiking trails offer you a picturesque journey. You can admire the most beautiful waterfalls and breathe in the forest air. Also, don’t forget to visit the majestic castle, which is an important architectural monument in Scotland. After a fun-filled day, dine at the cafe serving fresh pastries, sandwiches, and even some traditional Scottish food.

    Kelburn Castle

Numerous castles cover the picturesque area of Scotland, and Kelburn is one of them. The 32-mile-long road trip from Glasgow takes no more than 1 hour.

Over the years, Kelbourne has hosted several generations of the Scottish de Boyville family. Time passed, the castle fell into disrepair, and there were no sufficient funds for its restoration. However, one day the owners came up with an original idea to paint Kelburn in graffiti style. Four of Brazil’s leading graffiti artists worked on the mural and created an incredible mix of old and new.

Depending on your wishes, you can explore the castle on your own, or spend more time on a guided tour that costs £2. It takes place daily at 2 p.m. during July, August, and the first week of September.

Children will find a lot of interesting things in the park. They include a “Mystic Forest” program full of fun and surprises, a swimming pool with its own waterfall and grotto, and communication with birds and animals. Also, the castle offers a cafe where you can taste delicious Scottish cuisine. At that time, young visitors can enjoy a variety of ice cream and pastries.

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park

Located 27 miles away from Glasgow, this national park is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Scotland. With crystal-clear lake water and rocky peaks of untamed mountains on either side, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park contribute to the high popularity of this strikingly beautiful spot.

The area surrounding the park is simply divine, and nature lovers will find it hard to tear themselves away from the local scenery. Whether it’s the calm waters of Loch Lomond that beckon you to its shores or the forest-filled realms of the Trossachs, this national park will give you a truly magical travel experience!

    M&D Scotland’s Theme Park

Drive 13 miles southeast of downtown to find this amusement park. M&D Scotlands is the place to have fun with the whole family. It offers roller coasters, water slides, a bowling alley, a puppet theatre, a terrarium, and more. One of the park’s most famous roller coasters is the Tornado, which features two 360-degree dead loops. Its length is 1 mile, and the maximum speed that the train develops is 50 mph. However, in addition to such extreme entertainment venues, you will find carousels and playgrounds for children.

When you’re hungry, try some traditional Scottish cuisine at one of the many restaurants or cafes in the area. And if you want to take a break from the rides, visit the indoor artificially created rainforest, which is home to many animals and birds.

In short, a road trip is the best way to get to know Glasgow. The surroundings of the city hide many charming places. Therefore, hire a car and hit the road!
