The National Toy Hall of Fame has revealed the finalists which may be included to the collection in 2022. The Hall of Fame announces a few new additions every year, adding several entries from our childhood. The organization houses the items in once place, making a trip down memory lane all the easier.
“These 12 toys span the history of play. The top is as old as civilization itself and bingo has been played in some form for hundreds of years,” Christopher Bensch, Vice President for collections at The Strong museum in Rochester, said.
Nominees for 2022 are:
- Bingo
- Catan
- Phase 10
- Rack-O
- Breyer Horses
- Masters of the Universe Figures
- Piñatas
- Nerf Toys
- Lite Brite
- Pound Puppies
- Spirograph
- The Top
As far as board and card games go, we’re hoping that Catan makes the list. Breyer Horses are a personal favorite but I know our readers would enjoy getting “Masters of the Universe” immortalized in the Hall of Fame. Lite Brite and Pound Puppies are staples of my childhood. The spirograph and spinning top are oldies but goodies.
Voting is open to the public through September 21st. You can find the list and ballot here. The three toys that are most voted for will be counted alongside the national selection committee who’s members are industry experts, academics and others. (Seriously, how do I get on that list?)
Inductees will be announced November 10th. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
