We hate to burst your bubble, but the new female-presenting interpretation of Pinhead, iconic “Hellraiser” character, is actually MORE accurate to the source material. Based on the Clive Barker novella “The Hellbound Heart,” the Pinhead character was first brought to cinema life by the one and only Doug Bradley. Barker himself adapted his own work in 1987, directing and writing the film.
This brings us to Hulu’s upcoming 2022 “Hellraiser,” with Jamie Clayton (“The L Word: Generation Q,” “Sense8“) taking on the iconic Pinhead role. [We’d like to remind you that Doug Bradley is VERY supportive of the casting.]
A new image has been revealed of Clayton as Pinhead, and it’s actually way more accurate to the character’s original description from “The Hellbound Heart.” The Cenobite first appears to character Frank, after he plays with the puzzle box in the Lemarchand configuration. The text is as follows:
“Its voice, unlike that of its companion, was light and breathy–the voice of an excited girl. Every inch of its head had been tattooed with an intricate grid, and at every intersection of horizontal and vertical axes a jeweled pin driven through to the bone. Its tongue was similarly decorated.”
Yeah, so- pearlhead Pinhead is completely accurate to Barker’s original text. Take THAT, complainers!
“Hellraiser” (2022) hits Hulu on October 7th, 2022.
