“The Flash” Star Ezra Miller Seeking Treatment for ‘Intense Crisis’

It only seemed to be a matter of time before Ezra Miller would have to come face-to-face with the controversies surrounding them. “The Flash” star has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons, ranging from felony burglary to assault, and possible child endangerment. All the while, Warner Bros. Discovery has remained silent on their antics. “The Flash,” despite the gravity of the allegations, has remained on the upcoming release slate.

This brings us to yesterday’s news that Miller has released a statement, saying they are seeking treatment for the “intense crisis” we’ve been witnessing.

“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” the statement to Variety reads. “I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”

One of the things that’s kind of troubling about the statement is that the issue is not so much that Miller has alarmed and upset people, it’s that they have hurt and wronged them; on a physical level. In 2020, video was released that showed Miller choking a woman in Iceland. You’d think that would be enough to make WB replace them or fire them, but no. There were also incidents in Hawaii, and the felony burglary charge in Vermont.

The reason Miller probably didn’t comment on them is likely down to the incidents being criminal in nature and the current legal matters they’re embroiled in. Regardless, it’s hard not to see this as a potential maneuver to try and save face for their career and for the fact that Warner Bros. Discovery can’t keep handwaving these things anymore. Based on the events we’ve seen play out in public, it’s pretty clear that Miller needs some sort of help, we can only hope that the effort to get help is legitimate in nature.

The saddest thing about this though is how long it took for this to happen. Why wasn’t Miller either cut or replaced from “The Flash?” It’s absolutely absurd things were allowed to get to this point.

Miller’s public meltdowns have hurt people, and put others in danger. Perhaps if people and businesses had cut ties with them earlier they would’ve sought treatment before all this and prevented that felony burglary charge from even happening to begin with.

We have raked Warner Bros. Discovery over the coals for some of their questionable decisions recently- like shelving “Batgirl” and other projects, but keeping “The Flash” on the release slate. But none of them have played around with people’s lives like this has. We sincerely hope that Miller is legitimately trying to get help not just for their own sake, but for the sake of those around them.

It’s one thing to be inwardly self-destructive, it’s another to be hurting people around you. We want to wish the best to the actor in addressing their health concerns. That being said though, mental health issues are not an excuse for physically hurting others and committing crimes both alleged and confirmed. Here’s hoping that this medical treatment will also allow for a period of reflection that puts an end to harming others.

We wish Miller the best of luck.

“The Flash” is currently set to hit theaters on June 23rd, 2023.
