Things to Consider Before Buying an RC Jet

The RC equipment and toys have come a long way from being simple toys for kids. They are now quite popular amongst hobbyists and aircraft enthusiasts.

You can buy many different kinds of planes, from small-scale military models to jets. Amongst all the other types, RC jets are the most popular because they can achieve speeds of more than a hundred miles an hour. These planes are quite thrilling as they can also perform aerobatic maneuvers.

However, buying new RC jets might be challenging as a newcomer to the radio control flying hobby. Your first experience and learning will depend upon the first RC jet you buy.

So, it is crucial that you explore various jets on a reputed online marketplace before making a decision. You can see different brands of jets with different configurations. In addition, you might be able to find compatible parts and spares on the website.

Here are some things you must look out for when buying a jet.

    1. Design configuration

If you are new to flying RC aircraft, you must buy the ones that have a good wingspan and are quite stable. It will give you time to learn how to fly.

You must not buy an aircraft that is extremely fast and has advanced features; it is better to opt for one that enables beginners to learn how to fly an RC jet.

A high-wing trainer jet is one of the most stable aircraft you can buy. As a novice, they would prove to be the best ones as you can enjoy the airplane’s stability. Even if you make mistakes, owing to the placement of the wings, the plane will correct itself.

    2. Power types

You have various options when choosing the type of engine for your airplane. You can either choose internal combustion powered engine or an electrically powered motor. Electric planes are silent, and internal combustion aircraft are noisy and heavier.

If you want to buy an economic plane, then an electric motor aircraft might be the best choice since they are more affordable, require fewer accessories, and are easy to fly.

However, internal combustion engines are difficult to maintain and may require you to buy more accessories. Moreover, you will have to invest money in fuel as well. In addition, you may also need special access to private land or a club membership to fly the aircraft.

    3. Controllable functions

The number of controllable functions on the RC jets determines how much you can customize with them. If you are still learning the process, buying a three-channel plane will be the best choice.

On the other hand, a single or double-channel aircraft is regarded as a toy since its capabilities are pretty limited. If you opt for a three-channel aircraft, you can control the airplane’s motor, elevator, and rudder or ailerons. Controlling the ailerons of the aircraft will enable you to make aerobatic maneuvers.

Once you have the hang of flying airplanes, you can opt for a four-channel aircraft. There might be a learning curve, but they are pretty fun.

You must remember these basic things when buying an RC jet to enjoy your hobby.
