Iconic horror franchise The “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” has announced its arrival on the Ethereum blockchain with the unveiling of Leatherfaces – a generative NFT project with illustrations by world class horror artist, Skinner.

Alongside Ultra Rare, one of the most trusted teams on the Ethereum blockchain, a total of 10,666 Leatherface avatars will be made available on Leatherfaces.io and grant collectors access to a “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” metaverse.

“As a lifelong horror fan, it’s an absolute honour to be able to bring Leatherface to the blockchain. The art from Skinner is incredible – brimming with energy and dark humour, which will appeal to horror and NFT fans alike,” said John Hickman, Founder of Ultra Rare.

In addition to the unique art, members of the bloody blockchain community will also have exclusive perks and utilities including entry into official film community events; chances at rare film memorabilia; screenings with the original creator; and other officially licensed merchandise and experiences.

“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a timeless classic,” said Kim Henkel, creator of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. “With our first NFT drop we continue to expand upon a tradition of rewarding the Chainsaw community – a community that’s driven by its intensely loyal fanbase – with new drops, merchandise, events, and access to the original film’s IP.”

On Halloween (October 31st, 2021), Leatherfaces is releasing 666 mint passes which will award early adopters and fans with one of the first minted avatars. Those who purchase a mint pass will also have preferred pre-sale opportunities and will be granted admission to The 666 – a DAO that will serve as the decision-makers for Leatherfaces’ ongoing drops and experiences. The remaining memberships will go on public sale on November 13th, 2021, but horror fans can join Leatherfaces’ Discord and find more details on Leatherfaces.io now.

“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” is a 1974 American horror film produced and directed by Tobe Hooper from a story and screenplay by Hooper and Kim Henkel. The film follows a group of friends who fall victim to a family of butchers while on their way to visit an old homestead. The film was marketed as being based on true events and to act as a subtle commentary on the era’s political climate. The character of Leatherface and story details were inspired by the crimes of murderer Ed Gein. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was banned in over seven countries, and numerous theaters stopped showing the film in response to complaints about its violence. It has since gained a reputation as one of the best and most influential horror films of all time. It is credited with originating several elements common in the slasher genre, including the use of power tools as murder weapons, the characterization of the killer as a large, hulking, faceless figure, and the killing of teenage victims.
